What is PPS?

As the major brands in the market have developed their own fast charging protocols, the quick charging protocols in the market are disorderly. Therefore, USB-IF released PPS to summarize and unify different charging protocols.

PPS is a protocol that will be adopted by major brands at present and in the future, such as Apple, Samsung, Huawei, etc. PPS is a power supply type supported in USB PD3.0, which is a kind of USB PD protocol output can achieve voltage and current regulation of the charging standard, PPS specification integrates the current high-voltage and low-current, low-voltage and high-current charging mode, so this charging standard has very good compatibility. In addition, PPS specification can adjust the output voltage according to the power of the equipment, so as to achieve higher efficiency and lower temperature.

 

The PPS (Programmable Power Supply) standard refers to the power supply can exchange data with the power supply every ten seconds, so that the power supply can dynamically adjust the output voltage and current according to the condition of the receiving product specifications. The voltage range is between 3~ 21V, with increment of 0.02V. Due to PPS, USB-IF Association has also added "PPS Voltage Step Test" and "PPS Current Limit Test" to ensure that the current and voltage dynamic adjustment of the device during the charging process are in compliance with the Association's specifications.
